Al geruime tijd werkt de Wiardi Beckman Stichting onder het motto: ‘The Amsterdam Process’ intensief samen met Policy Network, een gerenommeerde internationale denktank uit Londen, en de Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) uit Brussel. Wat ooit begon als een kritische reflectie op de erfenis van de Derde Weg in het Bethaniënklooster in de Amsterdamse rosse buurt, is uitgegroeid tot het meest toonaangevende vernieuwingsproject van de Europese sociaal-democratie.
Met trots presenteert de WBS nu een tussenstand van het Amsterdam Process in tweevoud. Het boek After the Third Way: The Future of Social Democracy in Europe bevat een selectie van de beste stukken over de problemen en kansen van de hedendaagse Europese sociaal-democratie, geschreven door vooraanstaande wetenschappers en publicisten uit Europa (o.a. Andrew Gamble, John Kay, Bo Rothstein, Tobias Dürr & Robert Misik, René Cuperus & Mark Elchardus, John Lloyd, Patrick Diamond & Olaf Cramme).
Samen met Policy Network publiceert de WBS tevens The Amsterdam Process: A Centre-Left Project for New Times. Dit manifest laat zien hoe centrum-linkse partijen de uitdagingen van maatschappelijke transformatie, verkiesbaarheid en ‘regeergeloofwaardigheid’ tegelijkertijd tegemoet kunnen treden. "A Centre-Left Project for New Times" urges social democrats to recognise that there is a credibility gap and delivery deficit which goes much deeper than political positioning and new rhetoric. It responds by setting out a sharper more coherent path for radical social democratic reform which draws together governing values, policy challenges, structural constraints and public attitudes.
Under the aegis of the 'Amsterdam Process', the publication is the culmination of two years of intensive debate and research which has involved a host of serving politicians, senior experts and academic commentators in meetings across European capitals.
